Learnings from non-business book reading sessions
The purpose of the book reading sessions in courses such as “Leadership and Change Management” and “Story Telling Artistry” is to make students experience the narrative transportation. For instance, Nelson Mandela's "Long Walk to Freedom" book reading session helps students relate to the personal and professional struggles of a leader without filters and without converting autobiography to a biographical case study.
The session is either set in institute-built Gurukul or in the classroom with optimal material design principles. Students usually take the floor of the classroom as their seat and listen to the excerpts read by the instructor. No electronic devices policy and close proximity between the reader and the listeners help set the environment for narrative transportation.
At the end of the session, students shall document their learnings with reference to society and workplaces in various artistic forms. The attached pictures reflect one of the book reading sessions that happened in Gurukul.
